ERIC JOHANSON
Lieutenant | The University of Texas at Austin | Police Department | Investigations
We offer both single drug sweeps and customized recurring programs to help maintain a safe learning environment for all students, teachers, and administrators.
Our K9 team collaborates with school administrators to create a tailored plan to search the following areas:
- Classrooms
- Desks
- Restrooms
- Locker Rooms
- Lockers
- Gymnasiums
- Auditoriums
-Administrative Offices
- Staff Break Rooms
- Parking Lots
- Vehicles
- Sports Fields
- Stadium Seating
Before our arrival, we will work with you to devise a plan of action, discussing the following:
Upon arrival, the handler will meet with your designated contact person, usually the principal or school security officer, and conduct a preliminary tour of the search areas, leaving the canine in the vehicle. After the tour, the handler will discuss the plan, answer any questions, and have you sign our standard agreement before beginning the search.
Your representative will accompany the K9 team throughout the search. If multiple K9 teams are used, an observer is required for each team. The handler will guide the dog through each area, marking locations where the dog indicates the presence of drugs. This provides specific locations for further inspection. If requested, the handler can observe the school representative’s search for narcotics and offer general guidance without conducting the search themselves. The dog's sensitivity may alert to residues of drugs previously stored, even if not currently present.
If substances are found and their legality is uncertain, we can use a field test kit to confirm their identity upon request. The responsibility of narcotic disposal falls on the school administrators, and we can provide disposal recommendations. Written reports are available within three business days of the search upon request.
